10 of the world’s greatest social entrepeneurs of all time

Early in June 2012, Huffingtonpost.com posted an article entitled “Social Entrepreneurship Soars as a Career Choice: Finding meaning in work and life” by David Hodgson. The co-founder and board chairman of Echoing Green wrote:

Now, being a social entrepreneur is a real choice, popularized by great examples (think of the founders of Teach For America, Freelancers Union and City Year, all of which were launched by Echoing Green Fellows) and supported by university curricula.

Here in the Philippines, we have our own prime examples of social enterprises committed to changing the society, and institutions dedicated to the advancement of social entrepreneurship. Behind these organizations are flesh and blood…people weho tirelessly toil to make a positive difference.

Sociable Blog gives tribute to the men and women behind change-making ventures across different fields and causes.

Here are 10 of the world’s greatest social entrepeneurs of all time from sociableblog.com.

Featured organization – Tao Po!

This author is no stranger to frustration when transacting with government agencies. Long queues and irrational processes alongside the occassional irate or aloof public servant have become standard.

But things are changing. The last two years of renewing my motorcycle registration was a relative breeze compared to the preceding years with average processing times down from 3 to 4 hours to two hours. I’ve also heard reports of convenient passport processing at the new DFA office at Macapagal Ave. in Pasay City.

This is the right standard. As law-abiding, tax-paying citizens of this nation, we deserve quality service from a government that exists to govern and serve its constituents.

More needs to be done in this realm. Fortunately there are entities (or “changeneers” as they call themselves) working full-time in the implementation and promotion of good governance and government.

Tao Po! (Taopo.org) is at the front-line of this campaign. The following is Tao Po’s mission statement as read from their website:

“Our aim is to remind ourselves that efficient government service is our right. We will provide news and information about the different government offices to the public. We will be the “roving cameras” inside the offices to let them know that we are watching them. We will empower you, the people to articulate your experiences, be it good or bad, at both local and national government offices, using the different interactive tools available at taopo.org. Our goal is to get the desired level of service we deserve, all across the board.”
